Women in this country are subordinated by men and there are a lot of views that describe that women are responsible for the honor of their families. So if any men do something incorrect like dishonor his family, like stealing, raping or any other crime, the women would be the one who has to apologize or rectify for the behavior of her brother, son or husband. So, the woman is responsible for maintaining the family honor.

Women and Society:

Society indicates women’s mobility. This means that women cannot go or do just whatever they want to, they need to ask for permission probably to her husband or son, and if this is a serious reason, they approve it. They also have to wear a burga or chador; these are two types of veil that women wear. The first type of veil called burga is a fitted body veil, and the second one called chador is used as a head covering and body veil. Is expected that the women of the upper and media class, live under the constraints of Purdah, which is the practice that includes the isolation from public observation by wearing concealing clothing from head to feet. The Purdah’s practice depends on the class level and the country; also the material of the veil and the quantity of how much the women is covering her body and face.

Pakistani society usually adopts a very unfriendly attitude towards the women.
Women in rural areas have to do domestic and outside work. Also because they are responsible for transplanting rice seedings, weeding crops, raising chickens and selling eggs. However, women are an important member of society that plays a vital role in building the society.

Where women's rights are not considered...

Young women who was kidnapped and raped. When she went to the police, they raped her too.

Women are not protected against domestic violence or attacks with acid. They are in a shelter.

A 19 years old girl who lost her first baby because her in-laws didn’t want to give her permission to go to the hospital. She was in labor for five entire days.

There is a woman who suffered a lot too, she is Mukhtar Mai.

Mukhtar Mai’s story began when her 12 years old brother was falsely accused of a sexual indiscretion in 2002.

Mukhtar that in that time was 30 years old, tried to smooth things over with her brother’s accusers out of village councils. They told her that she had to pay for her brother’s offense, and they took her to another place and was raped for several times by four men.

After this, she had only one way to restore her family’s honor, by taking her own life.

Here in this video, you will see the complete story and an interview. It’s a kind of documental of what happened to her. After all the suffering and crime against this woman, you can realize how somebody can turn all this suffering in something good, not just for her but for every women and children.

She created a girl school with the money she gained “making justice”, but the most important of all is that she created a shelter where women who had been through similar problems can feel safe, self-confidence, secure and not afraid to be exposed again to the same kind of violence.
